Seminar Recap
On Thursday October 3, the Implementation Science Center hosted its inaugural seminar. Dr. David Chambers joined us virtually to present “Building a Big Tent for Implementation Science Together: Reflections and Opportunities.” Dr. Chambers is the Deputy Director for Implementation Science in the Office of the Director in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
His presentation covered topics critical to implementation science, including the long pathway to publication and establishing evidence – an average of 17 years to turn 14% of original research to improve patient care. Dr. Chambers also outlined many key implementation science resources and talked about opportunities for building capacity in this new and growing field.
Dr. Chambers wrapped up his talk by discussing intervention scale-up and the importance of context for adoption. He also highlighted the many strengths available to us at the University of Iowa for building up our implementation science capacity.
